Local chambers of commerce, 21 in all, from Northern Virginia to Hampton Roads to Bristol, issued a joint statement Tuesday encouraging the expansion of Medicaid in Virginia. Frank Tamberrino, president and CEO of the local chamber, said Tuesday that the organization's public policy committee hasn't taken a position on the sticky legislative matter and hasn't reviewed the current expansion proposal.

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, the only insurer that plans to participate in the Affordable Care Act's public health exchanges in the Northern Shenandoah Valley in 2019, is seeking rate hikes of up to nearly 12 percent for the small group market, which serves groups with fewer than 50 employees. According to documents filed Friday with the Virginia Corporation Commission, the proposed rate change is 7.2 percent, with changes by plan ranging from 2.1 to 11.9 percent.

The Strasburg Museum will offer free admission on Saturday to open its newest exhibit, four examples of the Willcox & Gibbs sewing machines, manufactured in 1864, 1905, 1910 and 1933.
